The instructions offered here are a brief summary. Before screening, be sure to read Chapter 5 of the Well Screening Examiner’s Manual for more details.

  • The child completes the screening using a desktop, laptop, or tablet. See the Technical Requirements section below to ensure that the device and browser meet minimum requirements.
  • It is best if the child completes the Well Screening in one uninterrupted sitting. Screening typically takes about 20 minutes.
  • Portions of the screening require the child to use a track pad, mouse, or touch screen to select items. If using a mouse, the adult helper should control the mouse and have the child select items by pointing.
  • The characters, Trip and Click, instruct and guide the child through the entire screening. They give the child directions at the start of each subtest.
  • The Well Screening is designed for in-person administration, where the adult helper sits next to the child. However, for professionals who need to deliver screening via teleadministration, directions for remote administration are available.

As the child completes the screening, you are the "helper." The helper's job is to quietly sit beside the child, listen to Trip's directions, and, on select subtests, record the child' s responses using a smartphone, tablet, or computer.

  • Some of the subtests are scored automatically. Others require the helper to check the box next to every item the child answers correctly. The Scoring Form will prompt you to enter answers when needed.
  • The Scoring Form shows exactly what the child must say for the answer to be scored as correct.
  • Subtest 4 is timed, and the helper must press the STOP button on the child's computer when the child names the last object.
  • Be sure not to coach, talk, or intervene with the screening.
  • If there is an interruption during the testing, you can press "Subtest Menu" and resume testing where you left off.

Logging in is easy.

  • After you complete your purchase from Brookes Publishing, you will receive an email from Well Screening (info@bolsterlearning.com) with Screening Codes. Each code allows you to complete one screening. Be sure to store your codes in a safe location where you can access them again.
  • With the device you will use for scoring, go to wellscreening.com. LOG IN by entering one of the Screening Codes that you received in your email. Select "MY SCREENING" then "SCORING FORM".
  • Next, with the computer or tablet the child will use, go to wellscreening.com. Log In with the same Screening Code. Select "MY SCREENING" then "BEGIN SCREENING".
  • Begin the screening when you and the child are ready.

After about 20 minutes, a Scoring Code is displayed on the child's screen that the helper must enter into the Scoring Form. After the Scoring Form is submitted, you will be shown the child's Learning Profile, which shows the results in an easy-to-understand format.

  • The child's performance on the Well Screening will be marked in colors labeled: Strength to Celebrate, On Track, or Weakness to Bolster.
  • Next Steps are available for each domain. This page offers games and activities to bolster areas of need, as well as links to licensed specialists who can provide further evaluation or intervention related to each domain.
  • You can print these results or view them anytime by logging in again with the same Screening Code.
  • If you choose to save or share the results, be sure to follow your school’s or employer’s guidelines for sharing and/or emailing student information. You are responsible for complying with applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations. For example, Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) regulations may be applicable. It is your responsibility to ensure that you share information appropriately.
